Convergent Boundaries:
There are oceanic-oceanic boundaries, and oceanic-continental boundaries present on the Philippine Plate, but no continental-continental boundaries. On the west side of the plate, close to the Philippines, there is shallow oceanic-continental subduction zone. This can be proved by looking at the age of the sea floor, and knowing that younger aged oceanic lithosphere subducts at a shallow angle (left photo). This is opposite on the east side of the plate. The oceanic lithosphere to the east is much older; therefore, it subducts at a much more steeper angle (right photo).

There are 53 active volcanoes in the Philippines and many more on the plate. The Philippine Plate is located in the ring of fire, and the volcanoes of the Philippines are ranked as the most deadly and costly in the world. On the east side of the plate the majority of volcanoes are stratovolcanoes, and the west side the majority are submarine volcanoes and stratovolcanoes.

There are many earthquakes on the Philippine plate. The majority of them being on the boundaries. Most of the earthquakes have a very shallow depth with the exception of a handful having a depth of 100+ kilometers. The depths of earthquakes also become deeper as you move further inland.
